CableLabs
Principal Architect, Immersive Media Strategy
Dr. Arianne Hinds is a Principal Architect at CableLabs where she is responsible for the overarching strategy on behalf of CableLabs and its members for immersive media and related technologies. In 2019, she co-founded Immersive Digital Experiences Alliance (IDEA) with the mission to develop an interchange and distribution format for streaming immersive media over commercial networks to drive XR displays and light field panels. She is the Chairman of the Board for IDEA, and as well, currently holds the position of INCITS L3.1 Chairman, for which she is the head of the U.S. delegation of experts for participation in ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG).

Prior to CableLabs, Dr. Hinds was a software engineer and image scientist in the Printing Systems Division at IBM in Boulder, Colorado (which was later acquired by Ricoh), where she designed and implemented image processing algorithms for use in the control units of high speed (1000+ pages-per-minute) production printers. She received her M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science at the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2000 and 2007 respectively. In 2005, she began her tenure as a member of the international MPEG committee, where she has since participated in the development of several video-related International Standards, including HEVC.

Arianne’s personal interests include playing the violin, research (she enjoys learning about topics in physics, math, computational imaging, and signal processing), and working out (lifting weights) in the gym. She is the mother to three sons: Austin, Jordan, and Sean. Having found her dream job at CableLabs, she is eager to serve as a role model for young girls who might not otherwise consider a career in STEM. She lives in Louisville, CO with her three sons.
