Rich is known for developing new and emerging market opportunities, anticipating and leading teams to navigate dramatic industry shifts and a robust history of mentoring and coaching a diverse set of colleagues from around the world.

He is responsible for worldwide development, articulation and execution of global market strategy and programs in industries that are experiencing significant changes in business models, customer relationships and value delivery. Rich is helping clients to digitally transform through AI, analytics and multi-cloud delivery models, glean new client insights and deliver contemporary high value services. Rich’s impact is manifest via award-winning campaigns, all-time highs in demand generation and personal eminence.

Previously, as VP Marketing for Smarter Cities, Rich was responsible for developing and executing IBM’s marketing and communications strategy, driving 50% growth. He helped cities improve operating efficiency and deliver better citizen services in transportation, water, emergency management, health care, crime solving and more.

Rich also was VP of Corporate Strategy responsible for expanding IBM opportunities in strategic and emerging markets, with specific focus on growing IBM’s business in Africa.

Before that, Rich led IBM’s channel, distribution and business partner strategy, being named as one of the industry’s Top 100 Channel Executives by CRN.

In previous executive roles, Rich held several positions in IBM Systems, including Vice President of Linux Sales. He has served in executive and management roles in product development for IBM’s UNIX and Mainframe businesses, where he received IBM’s prestigious award for Outstanding Technical Achievement. Rich also helped birth the first Scalable Parallel systems, Watson’s ancestor, leading to today’s IBM leadership position in High Performance and Cognitive Computing.

Rich holds a Master of Science in Computer Science and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Marist College. He also completed MIT’s Sloan School of Management program on Corporate Strategy and IBM’s exclusive marketing E.School.
